I had the idea for Black girl funded nearly two years ago after a conversation about how terrible Tyler Perry’s films were in terms of how he represents Black women.
Now, I know many Black women artists, I also know that crowdfunding and be both wonderful, frustrating and rewarding. It is with this in mind that I created the tumblr Black girl funded whose purpose is to assist in supporting indie gogo, kick starter and chip-in campaigns by women of color in general, Black girls in particular.

Renina is a cultural critic, author, instructor and a blogger. She is also the founder of Black Girl Everything, Race in DC and New Model Minority. She is author of the forthcoming book "Black Girls Are From the Future: Essays on Race, Gender and Popular Culture".
